    Description:

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is located on the TN/KY line just northwest of Knoxville, about 3½ hours from Asheville, NC. Some of the recreation activities available at Big South Fork include backpacking, biking, camping, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking and whitewater rafting.

The Bandy Creek Visitor Center is a great place to begin your trip. You will find park rangers eager to answer any questions you might have, advice, or directions to anywhere in the area. You’ll also find books and maps and a list of outfitters who can take you on the river by raft and canoe and into the backcountry by horse and mountain bike.

The Bandy Creek Campground has bathroom and shower facilities with hot water, electric and water hookups for RV’s and tent campsites, group camps, handicapped accessible sites, horse-boarding stables and a swimming pool.

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a 123,000 acre park and contains secluded coves, waterfalls, a deep river gorge, historic sites, natural sandstone arches and a myriad of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails.

    Rates:

The cost is $20/night for electric hook-ups and $17/night without hook-ups for both RV and tent camping. Reservations are available from April 1 through October 1, but walk-ins are also permitted. Bandy Creek Campground offices are open all year round from 8-4:30.
