Before You Go
About this list
The list you make for a hiking trip will vary greatly due to the type of hiking, time of year, and duration of the trip.

Please be aware that hiking in the backcountry can be dangerous. Individuals
should hike in groups and the group should be self sufficient as possible - help is
at best hours away. Leave the following information with someone - tell them where
you are going and when you expect to return and who to notify if you do not arrive.
Weather conditions in the WNC mountains can change rapidly and expect the worst
for the time of year. Plan for additional time on the trail. You’re hiking for the enjoyment
of being outside; don’t rush it. This will also allow for that wrong turn or disappearing trail.
Spending the night in the woods isn’t any fun when you weren’t planning on it.
