Park and Play at Big Rocks, Nolichucky River
Written by William Dodd, DBO Staff

    Description:

It is just a park and play spot. There is a good hole with a large pool behind it. There are good eddys on both sides of it. It is good for cartwheels, loops, spins, and anything else you can come up with.

  • Level of Expertise:

You can be any level of paddler to enjoy this spot.
If you are a beginner learning your roll, it is great
because it is just a large pool. If you are very
experienced, you can do most freestyle moves available
    today.

    Put-In:

Take 19/23N (soon to be I-26) out of Asheville, NC. Go all the way to Erwin, TN which takes about an hour.Get off at exit 18 and take a left. Go about 4 or 5 miles and take a right on the last street before you cross the Nolichucky River. Go about 1 mile and park in a gravel parking spot big enough for about 2 or 3 cars. It will be on the right. Cross the road and walk down to the river. The play spot is right there.

    Take-Out:

The take-out is the same as the Put-in.
