    Description:

This is a great park and play spot for
folks of all types. It has great eddys on both sides
of the hole. The water is calm right behind the hole, so rolling is not a problem. It is a slow spot so the water is not coming at you rapidly. It is very controlled.

  • Level of Expertise:

It is great for beginners learning to playboat. Because it is so slow, beginners can take their time to learn what they want to. They can really control their boat much easier than some of the other play spots in the area. It is also great for experienced paddlers. You can get a great work out while working on your skills.

    Put-In:

From Asheville- Take 40 West to 23/74 West like you are going to Western Carolina University. Get off at the exit for the University (exit 85). Follow that road into town (Sylva, NC) where you will come to a major intersection. Take a left on the four lane, and head to Western Carolina University. Stay on this road past the University, and it will then turn into a two lane road. Keep going on this road
until you see an Exxon Gas Station on your left. Right after this you will cross a fork of the Tuckasegee River. As soon as you cross this river turn left on the first street across the river. Drive up that road until you see a gravel parking pull off
on your right. Park there and put-in about 50 yards back down the road. The hole is right there.

    Take-Out:

The take-out is the same as the Put-in.
